Sound Artist | Composer
Thomas Jeker, based in Brussels, born in Basel/Switzerland.
He works as a musician and composer with different choreographers for dance pieces and also creates music for theatre and movie.
After studying contrabass, guitar and shakuhachi he started to become more interested in electronics, recording and diffuse technics.
After some good advice from friends and spending a lot of time with the computer, he slowly started to integrate electronics in his work and sound.
Today his music is very often a combination of electroacoustic compositions, sometimes played live on stage, mostly using a string instrument like guitar, contrabass or cello, (lately also theremincello), and computers. Sometimes the music is pre-produced and played from a cd.
His music was played for example at the Fringe Festival-Philadelphia, Kunstenfestival des arts-Brussels, Théâtre de la Ville-Paris, Montpellier Danse, Festival de Théâtre des Amériques-Montreal, Festival Cambalache-Buenos Aires, Lucerne Festival, Haus der Kulturen der Welt/ Berlin and Festival de la Batie-Geneva.
He is lately researching and experimenting with big monochords, a simple self made string instrument with a length of 4-6m , amplified with pickups and played with a bow and mallets.
Beside his own projects,he is working as a sideman in some bands, and is member of the trio Toboflex (cinema pour oreille). This trio plays concerts in surround-settings with live electronic treatments (Felix Perdreau), Nature-Sounds/Field-Recordings of Boris Jollivet and instruments played by Thomas Jeker.
